Notes: the Bomb, etc.

June 2, 2009

1. John Wheeler’s hydrogen bomb team at Princeton University in 1952 included six women: Margaret Fellows, Margaret Murray, Dorothea Ruffel, Audrey Ojala, Christine Shack, and Roberta Casey.

2. Yesterday, I saw a little hedgehog — at least I think it was a hedgehog — in the park in downtown Umeå, by the church. It was foraging by a stream, wobbling along. At the time, I was so surprised to see it there. I stopped walking and watched it make its way slowly under a small bridge and disappear from view. Even here, just south of the Arctic Circle, just south of where the reindeer roam around unperturbed, there seems to be something so exotic about the presence of wild life.

3. I’m re-reading Monique Wittig’s Les Guérillères for the millionth time. What is it about some books that we carry them around with us for years and years?
