J.W. Waterhouse

January 19, 2010

I went to Montreal last week to a friend’s exhibition opening at l’UQAM and a fellow Banff resident’s solo show at Parisian Laundry. The art scene — both emerging and established — in Montreal seems full of energy. While there, I also had a chance to see this show at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal — the largest retrospective ever of Waterhouse’s work. This painting is my favorite: Ulysses and the Sirens. The reproductions don’t come close to the real thing.
