6:50AM
Finally got up and took a shower; got dressed.

7:30AM
Tried to leave the guest house but Oscar the cat wouldn’t let me leave. John saw me trying to evade the cat and came out to intervene.

7:40AM
Got at a latte at Whole Foods. The woman behind the espresso counter whispered, “How are you?,” while she was pouring coffee for some guy in a tie and button down shirt. He thought she was speaking to him and answered in a loud voice, “I’m doing well. Thanks.” Then, he realized she was talking to me—

“She was talking to you!,” he said, laughing.

I laughed, nodding.

“You must be a regular,” he said.

“Yes,” I said, still sort of laughing.

Paying at the cash register, the short, funny check-out guy with a tweed golf hat—he reminds me of this guy I knew in college—said he needs a cup of coffee. He said he woke up just in time to get to work.

“Do you get free coffee?”

“No. We used to but they changed the rules,” he said ruefully. “I don’t know why they did that.”

“Evil capitalist society,” I said.

“Well, I wasn’t going to say it but—,” he said, with a smile.

“Have a good day.”

“That’s the plan,” he replied. He always says that.
